Bridge Communities Receives $15,000 Grant from DuPage Community Foundation

Bridge Communities was one of 39 not-for-profit organizations in DuPage County to receive a grant from the 2009 Spring Discretionary Grant Cycle of The DuPage Community Foundation based in Wheaton, Illinois.

The grant will be used to support Bridge Communities’ transitional housing program as we work to help homeless families move toward self sufficiency, financial independence and permanent housing.

“Because of the growing recession hardships, Bridge has increased its emergency response to our client families and this grant will provide funding needed to help with employment training, transportation, child care and other unanticipated client needs,” said Joyce Hothan, executive director of Bridge Communities. “We value the strong relationship we share with DuPage Community Foundation and appreciate its commitment to our neighbors in need.”

Bridge Communities partners with 43 faith-based and community-action groups in DuPage County to serve more than 100 homeless families each year.  The community partners provide mentors who encourage and work with a family over a two-year period to help them develop life-skills and financial literacy that will lead to long-term independence.

The DuPage Community Foundation seeks to raise the quality of life throughout DuPage County by fostering philanthropy, connecting donors to area needs and building community partnerships.  Established in 1986, The DuPage Community Foundation is a publicly-supported 501 (c)(3) organization to which contributions are tax deductible.  The Foundation receives contributions and bequests into a permanent endowment from individuals, corporations and organizations and foundations wishing to make lasting contribution to the people of DuPage County.

Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded more than $9 million in grants to more than 400 not-for-profit agencies serving the residents of DuPage County and beyond.  Total grants for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2008 amounted to more than $1.3 million.
